Little is known of Axel's life up till his apperance in Kingdom hearts Chain of Memories and II. Even his name doesn't follow the rule of thumb for the Nobodies that make up the group Orginization XIII. (Names of nobodies are anagrams for the name they had in life. Can't think of one for Axel.) Rash, fiery-tempered, and solitary he worked for the orginazation as a form of shock troop and specialty assasin. Though his loyalty to the group was never in question, Axel was often found acting on his own, and outside the groups knowledge. Like all the other nobodies, Axel was devoide of any semblence of a heart, ruthlessly carrying out their judgement, following his and their insatible desire to regain their humanity at all costs. It wasn't untill the recruitment of Roxas, Sora's nobody, into their fold that a change came over Axel. For a reason unbeknownst to Axel, Roxas brought out a long forgotten part of himself that resembled the feeling of a heart. Axel quickly gained affection for him and they became close friends. Unfortunally Roxas was concerend with his ability to wield the keyblade and left on a journey of self discovery, much to Axel's dismay. Roxas shortly thereafter was apprehended by the mysterious DiZ and put into a virtual world. Axel quickly follows and tries, in futility, to snap Roxas out of his memory wipe, but is too late to stop him from joining with Sora. Axel, trying to recover Roxas and that nostalgic feeling of humanity, tried to lure Sora out and change him back into his Nobody form. But it later put Sora and his friends in danger, and because of the changes Roxas had brought out of Him Axel felt remorse, a very human feeling, for his intended foe and ultimatly sacrafices himself to protect him.

Axel commands the powers of fire in all forms, such as jets of flames, fire balls, pillars of flame and massive explosions. He wields duel, ornate chakrams in which he uses at close and long distances. Aside from his unique powers he also inherits the natural powers of the nobodies, increased strength, agility, Etc. As well as the power to teleport/open portals. As a greater nobody he also has the power to summon and command legions of assasin nobodies.
